To say the last few months have been a challenge would be an understatement. Health issues have required some major changes in diet and lifestyle. Just when I think I have adapted to the changes, a temporary but more extreme challenge is upon us. Now I have a choice to make: Will I view this new challenge as a burden or adventure?
I will admit that as we made our way through the grocery store this afternoon, I was seriously tempted to whine a little (or a lot)! But positive attitude won over and it became a treasure hunt instead. When your diet is already limited to low carb, minimal sugars, and low fat,it is already a challenge. But when you then have to eliminate dairy, seafood, and anything containing soy or kelp, there aren’t too many aisles in the store to shop in and only a few products in each aisle.
It would be easy to see these new restrictions as a burden. After all, this will require menu planning and pantry organization. Label reading has taken on a whole new dimension. (I’ve been a little shocked at how many foods have soy and kelp derivatives in them!) But whining and complaining won’t make the next few weeks any easier. As I contemplate the task ahead, a scripture comes to my mind: “Whatever may be your task, work at it heartily (from the soul), as [something done] for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23 AMP).
Viewing the weeks ahead as a task to be done for the Lord puts it in a whole new light. I’m not just cooking for myself, but I have to find a way to make appetizing and tasty food that my husband will enjoy while meeting my dietary restrictions. That’s where the adventure begins! Armed with a cookbook compiled for my specific dietary guidelines, I am determined that we will eat a variety of good foods over the next few weeks.
So what is your challenge? Have you been told you need to be active/exercise 30 minutes a day when you already have a packed schedule? Have you been told you have to lose or gain weight? Do you have medical treatment you are facing? Do you have to move or find a new job?
Let me encourage you to approach your challenge as an adventure not a burden. Take this opportunity to look at your calendar, diet, lifestyle, or career in a new light. Make a positive change that will meet and exceed that challenge with which life has presented you. Approach this challenge and do this task as if you are doing it for the Lord!
I would love to keep you in my prayers as you take on the adventure that is your personal challenge. Leave me a note in the comments with as little or as much detail as you would like and I will add you to my prayer list.
Thanking the Lord for my heart 4 home as I take on the next life challenge!
