We are on our annual escape to the beach. I come to the coast and get settled in the condo, and then throughout the week family members join me. By Friday evening, most of my family will be here and those that aren’t will be greatly missed! This afternoon, I am enjoying a few moments of quiet while my son’s family is off exploring the Tillamook Cheese Factory. It’s a great afternoon to settle in with a cup of tea while soup simmers on the stove, and I can watch the storm from my warm chair.
I love the stormy ocean. As I sit and look out on the beach with grey skies and crashing waves, a blend of scriptures and worship songs play through my mind, and I begin to hum “Still” by Hillsong. The words of the chorus are so applicable to our current situation:
When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father You are King over the flood
I will be still, know You are God
It’s been a few years of overwhelming storms in our life, but I can say without any doubt that He is God. His love and provision have carried us through each storm, and He has blessed us with His peace.
My parents’ scripture verse as a couple was Isaiah 26:3, and it has been the scripture that keeps coming to mind when I begin to feel overwhelmed by the current storm in our lives. My peace comes when I keep my focus on the Lord.
Where is your focus today? Is it on the storm or is it on the Lord? It makes all the difference between being overwhelmed and being at peace.
Endeavoring to live in obedience to this scripture allows me to keep doing what needs to be done at home and at work, for myself, for my family and with my family. I cherish the peace that only He can provide.
