Yesterday I shared about our Annual Father’s Day Burger Cook-off
but I didn’t share the burgers that were created. They were all very delicious.
I can only divulge recipes for components of my own entry. My family was very open
about what they put on the burgers but not necessarily the recipes for the burger patties or sauces.
I’d be happy to have any of them guest post their recipes if I get requests for them.
Here’s the menu for this year’s entries:
The winner—Jordan’s Tiki Burger:
Sweet/sour ground beef patty, grilled pineapple, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, red onion
and the secret weapon – Dr. Pepper bacon on a grilled onion bun.
My “Caprese Burger”:
Beef and chicken Italian sausage patty filled with homemade mozzarella, topped with more mozzarella,
thick slice of tomato, leaves of basil with balsamic aioli on a ciabatta bun.
Justin’s “Mauna Loa Burger”:
Chopped bacon and ground beef patty with melted Havarti cheese, cilantro and tomato,
topped with an avocado/pineapple salsa on a toasted onion bun.
Rod’s “Duck Fat Burger”:
Bacon, beef and duck fat patty topped with onions caramelized in duck fat,
tomato and lettuce on grilled potato bun.
Ryan’s “Greek Burger”:
Lamb patty with cucumber tzatziki sauce and tomato on a grilled onion bun.
Emily’s “Gee Whiz Peach Blackberry BBQ Burger”:
Gee whiz (family recipe) burger, grilled peaches, raw spinach, onion straws,
and roasted blackberry BBQ sauce on a toasted potato bun.
All of the burgers tasted wonderful but the best part of the afternoon
was the fun and banter while they were being prepared.
I encourage you to choose a family favorite food and have your own contest.
It could be hot dogs, pizza, pasta sauce—any food item that can be “personalized.”
I would love to hear about your family’s food and fun in a creative competition.
I hope my family’s fun has encouraged your family to explore your heart for home!
