I love the Easter season! I love the focus on the love that took Jesus to the cross on Good Friday. I love even more the celebration of His resurrection on Easter Sunday. We will be enjoying that celebration with our oldest son, daughter-in-love, and our oldest grandchildren tomorrow as we gather at church to worship, enjoy the Easter egg hunt, and then have dinner together.
This afternoon, the grand-kiddos and I prepared the dessert for tomorrow’s dinner. My oldest granddaughter had helped me “pin” ideas for Easter. We chose to make the Easter Dirt Cake. (Click on the link for the video directions.) It almost looks like the Pinterest picture. Most important is that we had great fun making it.
I baked the cake this morning before they came over so it would be cooled and ready to frost. I used a “Funfetti” cake mix to go along with the colorful Easter decorations.
Nora turned the strawberries into carrots with melted orange candy melts. She dipped them and then used a small Ziploc bag with the corner snipped off to make the lines carrots normally have.
We gave Ronan a large Ziploc bag of chocolate filled Oreo cookies and a big spatula. We turned him loose to smash them into “dirt.”
While her siblings were busy, Ilona helped me make the frosting and spread it on the cake.
Ronan added his “dirt” to the top of the cake. He had to sample some to make sure it was good to eat.
Then he and Ilona turned the coconut into green grass.
Nora added her “carrots” to the cake with some help from me and Ilona.
The girls spread the “grass” around the carrots to hide the frosting that wasn’t covered by “dirt.”
It may not be Pinterest perfect but we had fun. It’s a cute cake and will be delicious tomorrow.
I pray that you have a wonderful Easter celebrating the resurrection of the Lord surrounded by friends and family. He is risen!
Blessed to share my heart for home,
