My sweet husband cubed the stuffing bread before he went to work this afternoon so I came home to it being ready for toasting! I turned the oven on to 275 degrees and checked it occasionally while my daughter-in-love and I worked on other Thanksgiving dinner preparations. When the cubes were dry and crispy I took them out of the oven and they are all ready to become stuffing tomorrow.
Thankfully we have dinner later in the day because my son has to work
so we don’t have to be up at dawn to put the turkey in.
Since none of us except my husband are morning people, that is probably a good thing!
Tomorrow we will add the following to the bread cubes
and bake it in a casserole dish while the turkey roasts:
1 pound bulk sausage (I used chicken sausage)
1 large onion, diced
2 stalks of celery, chopped
2 large apples, peeled, cored, and chopped
1/2 chicken broth (add more to taste)
1/4 cup melted butter
1 teaspoon salt
Rubbed sage and poultry seasoning to taste.
We all love this stuffing and the leftovers rarely last very long!
Well, we have finished the lefse (I’ll blog about that soon!), the pies, and rolls
–the rest will get done tomorrow!
Have a blessed Thanksgiving and enjoy your family!
Counting my blessings and loving that God gifted me with a Heart 4 Home!
